Android Video Podcast Syncing (Windows)

I was looking for a solution to sync video podcasts to my Samsung Intercept (Android). Here’s how I did it:

Downloaded Miro, an open source podcast manager and set up my podcast feeds, selecting the “Small Quicktime” option when available. These tend to play without any conversion required on my phone.

Then I downloaded Allway Sync and setup a one way sync with the Miro Podcast folder and the Intercept’s SD card.

After that, download podcasts with Miro, connect Intercept in USB mode and sync with Allway.

Now here’s the cool part. Some podcasts, for example IGN’s Daily Fix, would not play on my Android. A simple “right click and convert” before syncing did the trick.

Just select the appropriate device or try out several of the available options until you find one that fits. It turns out that one of the most compatible and smallest (file wise) for my phone is the iPod (Nano) option, but the Cliq/DEXT and Hero options worked just fine. Important: Converted files are saved to a standalone folder called “Converted”. Miro also has a standalone video converter if you just want to convert a few videos. Linux users can look to Banshee for their podcasting needs. It integrates Miro and works great for most podcasts.
